His Power

This powerful exploration of Holy Spirit power challenges us to rethink what power really means from a biblical perspective. Drawing from Romans 8:9-17, we discover that the power promised to us is not about domination or control, but about giving life. The sermon traces this theme from creation, where God breathed life into humanity, to the present day where the Spirit breathes resurrection power into our mortal bodies. What's particularly striking is the example of William Seymour and the Azusa Street Revival, where a mild-mannered, one-eyed preacher became the catalyst for a movement that touched millions. This wasn't because of his natural charisma or worldly influence, but because he was so filled with God that people couldn't help but encounter divine power in his presence. The central tension we face is revealed clearly: we can either live under the management of our sinful flesh or surrender completely to the Holy Spirit's control. There's no middle ground, no self-controlled neutrality. The flesh promises life but delivers death, while the Spirit puts to death the deeds of the body and grants us true, abundant life. When we allow the Holy Spirit full management of our lives, we receive the profound assurance that God is our Abba, our Father, and we become agents of life-giving power in a death-cursed world.
