Called to Serve
The Deacons serve on one of three committees and provide services, support and encouragement to our congregation and to our community.
The role of a Deacon as set forth in scripture is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ. It is the duty of the Deacons, first, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress.
The Board of Deacons monitors and distributes the Deacon Fund through a Samaritan Ministry/Deacon Fund Committee. The Deacon Fund helps with emergency financial needs such as illness, loss of employment, professional counseling, utilities and food.
Senior Adults & Special Needs
The Senior Adults and Special Needs team contacts all homebound monthly, provide transportation as needed for doctors visits or daily needs and Sunday or church events, pray for all senior adults and those with special needs, and provide seasonal gifts. They are often called to go with Rev. Matt Jones to pray with senior adults when end of life on earth is near.
Illness/Crisis/Bereavement team provides a family meal or reception following a funeral, pray for families who have experienced a loss, provide a host/hostess for memorial services or funerals, communicate with bereaved through visits, cards, phone calls, minister to family members as needed, and provide six month and one year follow up with family. The Deacon Fund Policy is also administered by this team. If you have had a death in the family, a serious illness, or other crisis and would like to request meals, a pastor visit or other assistance, please contact the church office at 341-3602, ext. 107.
Welcoming & Outreach
The Welcoming & Outreach team organizes the Christmas gift tree for Grace Living Center, maintains a prayer list of FPCE college students and those serving in the military, prepares and mails care packages to college students during finals week, and provides greeters at doors for services on Sunday. The team provides bus transportation for our senior adults to church and church events. Time & Tool provides for the needs of senior members and single mothers.
Contact Deacon Dwight Schulke at 341-1632 if you or a family member is unable to attend church and would like to receive homebound communion.
We provide transportation to church for our shut-ins who are living at Tealridge and Touchmark Living Center. Contact Deacon Bill Hainer at 475-9202.
